Making Butter Like the Pioneers. Pioneers often hung a bucket of cream on the wagon and let it bounce there all day as they traveled on the rough and bumpy trail. At the end of the day, they were left with butter and buttermilk. We made butter (and buttermilk) using whipping cream in baby food jars - shaken by hand for 2-3 minutes.

Children had to guess what this "mystery" object was. Some guesses included butter churn or wooden barrel. It's the hub from a covered-wagon wheel.
For the last few days, two peregrine falcons have been spotted on the roof of our school. We hope they are nesting. As I was dismissing the children today, one of the falcons flew above our heads, calling. The kids were so excited!

I couldn't resist posting two photos today. We had a beautiful, heavy, wet snow last night and the trees are covered. This view from my classroom window somehow makes this long winter bearable. Still wishing for spring!
